It’s Spring Break on the Hill. All Members of Congress have returned to their home districts for the next two weeks. Traditionally, this is the time that Members hold Town Hall events with their constituents “back home.”
Unfortunately for Virginia’s 10th District, their Representative, Barbara Comstock has never held a Town Hall event, and has indicated she has no intention to start anytime soon. Residents are outraged by Comstock’s votes to defund Planned Parenthood, limit the EPA’s ability to use scientific research, allow hunters to kill hibernating wolf cubs in their dens, and give the coal industry carte blanche to pollute streams with impunity.
Indivisible VA District 10 volunteers are planning a week of #ReclaimRecess demonstrations to expose and oppose Representative Barbara Comstock’s support of the extreme Trump agenda. The group continues to demand that the congresswoman hold in-person town halls with constituents across Virginia’s 10th congressional district. Residents previously held a Town Hall event at their own expense and invited the Congresswoman to attend. She refused.
“Since being re-elected in January, Barbara Comstock’s voting record demonstrates her full support of Trump’s policies,” the group explains. “As our Representative in Congress, we are asking Barbara Comstock to honor her obligations to address our concerns and explain her voting record in an open, public forum during the Congressional recess.”
Indivisible volunteers working in collaboration with Working Families Party and a variety of other groups and residents across Virginia’s 10th congressional district are organizing a week of action with a different issue focus each day. Monday April 10 through Friday, April 14, citizens will gather outside of Rep. Comstock’s district office in Sterling from 8 a.m.-10 a.m. and again 3 p.m.-5 p.m. to express their views. Individuals are also requesting recess meetings in the district office.
